Before his co-founding of LigoLab with Partners Edward Kharatian (Co-Founder and Medical Director) and Anthony Oganesian (Co-Founder and CTO), Avunjian served as the CTO for Healthline Clinical Laboratories. While there, he played a leading role in helping Healthline become the largest privately held laboratory in California. He did this by managing the implementation of cutting-edge technologies that enabled the laboratory to scale up its testing volume by 20 times in just seven years.
Avunjian expertly leads LigoLab by applying his experience and operational excellence to drive strategy and innovation, and he possesses a keen sense for knowing when to take advantage of an opportunity to advance the company and enhance the platform for all of its laboratory partners.
An example of this is the launching of TestDirectly in March of 2020. TestDirectly is a direct-to-consumer web portal that facilitates safe and easy sample collecting and processing. In the early days of the Coronavirus pandemic, clinical laboratories were struggling with COVID-19 collection and reporting. TestDirectly eliminated those bottlenecks and more, making testing more accessible for patients, while also enabling labs to drastically increase capacity and improve turnaround times.
With a firm understanding of the laboratory industry and what the future holds, Avunjian is a highly sought-after industry voice, with regular thought-leadership appearances in leading publications like CAP Today, Clinical Lab Products Magazine, Clinical Laboratory News, Dark Daily, MedicalLab Management Magazine, and Medical Laboratory Observer.
Early in his career, Avunjian played a critical role in building several start-up businesses as well as advising well-established organizations. He oversaw the development and exit of numerous B2B software platforms, and his entrepreneurial journey eventually led him to the position of CTO with Healthline Clinical Laboratories. The lab was eventually acquired by LabCorp in 2006, prompting Avunjian and his partners to launch LigoLab.
