At-Home Testing and its Pandemic Response Potential
May 23, 2024
The COVID pandemic put the spotlight on clinical testing and the need for clinical laboratories to be nimble and adaptable so they can serve their respective communities when the need arises.
In January 2022, the U.S. found itself in the middle of a surge of COVID cases, thanks to a highly transmissible variant. Now, one year later, the threat presented appears to be much less than it once was because vaccines (and boosters) are readily available and the fact that a large portion of the population also has varying degrees of immunity from earlier exposure to the virus.
So what lessons were learned over the last two-plus years, and how can the U.S. make sure it’s properly prepared for the inevitable next pandemic?
Chris Wolski, Chief Editor of Clinical Lab Products magazine recently posed that question to Joseph Mann, MSN, FNP-C, Global Medical Science Liason at BD.
Here’s a link to the Q & A that also touches upon the importance of at-home testing that directly links the clinical laboratory to the patient.
Is At-Home Testing the Key to Future Pandemic Response?
We at LigoLab wholeheartedly endorse the importance of at-home testing as an effective way to access the patient for testing. That’s why we worked with our clinical lab partners to first develop, and then enhance TestDirectly.
TestDirectly is a cloud-based patient and client portal that supports turn-key point-of-care workflows for testing providers, connecting them with patients for convenient direct-to-consumer testing.
TestDirectly supports client customization and multiple collection scenarios, including at-home collections.
To learn more about TestDirectly and how it removes laboratory testing bottlenecks while also directly connecting the lab with the patient for at-home testing, we invite you to check out the following links.
