Jenny Bull like all successful industry professionals in the C-suite, is constantly on the move. As Chief Operating Officer for Avero Diagnostics, a national physician-operated laboratory operation specializing in women’s health, anatomic and clinical pathology, molecular pathology, and clinical diagnostics, she manages daily operations for diagnostic lab testing facilities in multiple locations across multiple states.

How well did the LigoLab’s LIS system platform meet your lab's specific needs and workflows?

It exceeded our expectations. Customizable features have streamlined our processes, saving us valuable time and resources.

Were there any functionalities that the LigoLab platform lacked that caused challenges?

No. We started working with them in 2014 and they have always met our needs and been willing to work with us to develop as needed.

How complex was the LIS system implementation process? Did LigoLab provide adequate support?

The implementation process is complex only in that it takes time. The system is so customizable that it really is only as good as the time you spend setting it up to meet your needs. It took us about 4-6 months total to be fully implemented and their team worked directly with us the entire time and spent the time needed on-site to ensure we were successful. My implementation advice is to be sure your team is fully available and focused on the project without the distraction of other projects.

Did the LIS system integrate seamlessly with your existing systems (e.g., analyzer interfaces, laboratory billing)?

Yes. There were no issues with any of our instrument interfaces or our client and billing interfaces. At the time of implementation, we were using separate billing software, but about a year after going live with the LIS, we switched to LigoLab’s RCM software as well and have a seamless process as it allows us to use the LIS and utilize a lot of front-end RCM tools such as demographic checks, address validation, insurance discovery, and eligibility verification.

How responsive and helpful was LigoLab’s support team?

They have always been very responsive and helpful.

Were technical issues resolved quickly and effectively?

Yes

Did LigoLab offer ongoing training and updates?

Yes. They provide frequent updates and work with us between system upgrades to develop as needed.

Were there any additional costs associated with ongoing support or maintenance?

Only what was outlined in our agreement.

Overall Experience and Satisfaction

Would you recommend this LIS system to other labs with similar needs?

Yes. I have also given several talks about the efficiencies of their LIS.

What were the biggest benefits you experienced after implementing the LigoLab LIS & RCM platform?

More efficiency. Our time spent in accessioning was a quarter of what it was in our old system. We implemented LigoLab in a lab we acquired two years ago and the first day after going live, the lab went from rolling over 200+ specimens at accessioning each day to zero rollover and we ultimately ended up changing the shift hours to end earlier in the evening. We also saw a lot more efficiency in our molecular lab workflows and the cytology workflow is considerably better than any system we have used.

Did the LIS system improve lab efficiency, productivity, and profitability?

Yes. 

Were there any unexpected downsides or challenges you encountered?

None that stand out.

Do you consider LigoLab ‘value added’ or ‘value for money’ in your organization?

Yes, definitely. I know it is not the most affordable LIS on the market, but I really think it is one of those “you get what you pay for” scenarios. We have been using the LIS for nine years and RCM for eight years and I just renewed our contract for another three. I don’t believe there is a better system out there for the money.
